Fort Lisse is located on a steep hill above Ochyro Village. It is one of the seven forts on the Kato Nevrokopi plateau, and has a 360° view of the heights. The plateau is an agricultural area. It is cold in the winter and cool in the summer, and damp in spring and autumn.
The plateau reaches 560m and its edges are scattered with the villages that form the Kato Nevrokopi municipality (8000 residents). The majority of local residents are of Pontiac descent (refugees from the population exchanges with populations from the south shores of the Black Sea), with people who came to the area between 1915 and 1924.
